We ended up registering with Babylist. It worked great for us; I loved being able to add items from multiple stores. They offer a 15% registry completion discount that you can use at any of the stores too. If you do have big things you know you are going to purchase, like your crib, I would recommend registering at that store also so that you can get their discount as well. Registering itself was so fun but also so overwhelming. I spent months researching, adding, removing, and re-adding products. Here are my top 10 registry picks that have been put to the test.
1. Car Seat. I spent a lot of time researching car seat options. I ended up going with the Nuna Pipa Lite LX Infant Car Seat with an extra-base for Grant's car. I know it is pricy, but it is one of few infant car seats rated "best" in crash protection by Consumer Reports. We did the Lite LX because Wyatt was a summer baby in AZ, and the fabric was more breathable. The Nuna Pipa Car Seat price tag is a little easier to swallow and still has the same safety features. It also includes the "dream drape" that unzips and covers the car seat with magnets. The cover is perfect for naps on the go!
2. Stroller. I always thought that I would want the Uppa Baby stroller until I saw and pushed the Nuna Mixx stroller. Not only is it more affordable than the Uppa Baby stroller, but it drives like a dream. I even took it offroading on a hiking trail in Flagstaff with no problems! I opted for a single stroller, vs. a double stroller. I like that it is compact and easy to fold and fits in my trunk with space to spare. We don't know when baby #2 is going to come, so I don't want to lug the extra stroller around. If you do know you want to have two close together, then the Nuna Demi Grow is a great option. It still folds up easily and is super easy to push and comes with a bassinet.
3. White Noise Machine. If you haven't read Happiest Baby On The Block or heard of Taking Cara Babies, you have to check them out! Studies have proven that a newborn wants to be back in the womb for the 4th trimester. Using a sound machine that provides swooshing loud noises will comfort baby and make their transition into our world a little easier. We have the Hatch Baby Sound Machine at home. I love that you can use the app to control it and that it provides just enough light for late-night diaper changes. When we are on the go, use this portable sound machine.
4. Owlet Sock. This little sock has given me so much peace of mind. It tracks oxygen, heart rate levels, and sleep. The Owlet Sock is a bit pricey, but they have sales throughout the year, and you can use HSA/FSA for it. We ended up buying this one for ourselves and did not add it to our registry.
5. Bassinet. After I found out I would have to have a c-section, I knew that I wanted to get the Halo Swivel Bassinet. I placed it right by our bed, and when Wyatt would wake up at night, I would swing it toward me, pick him up and feed him without having to get out of bed.
6. Sleep Sacks. I don't know what parents did before them. They take the guesswork out of swaddling and make your life a little easier. Especially at those 2 am diaper changes! Sleep Sacks replace blankets that can cover your baby's face and cause issues. They keep your baby safe while immobilizing them for sounder sleep. I would breakdown sleep sacks into two categories, newborn and baby. The Ollie Swaddle for newborns is a game-changer. I ended up buying two of them after I had tried all the other swaddles we had. It uses Velcro and a tie off at the bottom, so one size fits all! It is also the softest fabric. Once they are rolling or breaking out their arms, I highly recommend the Nested Bean Zen Sack. Wyatt loves it! It is like a weighted blanket for babies. We got a medium for him when he was four months, and we are still using the size medium at nine months. I got two Ollie's and Nested Bean's so that we always have one clean.
7. Baby Monitor. We have a v-tech set that was a gift it serves its purpose but there are features I wish it had. Here are the two monitors I have researched and are considering buying with baby number two or sooner if Grant will let me. Up first is the Kodak Cherish baby monitor with the mobile app. I like this one because it comes with a monitor and you can use your phone to check-in. Second is the Nanit Plus Camera. Pros, sleep tracking, great camera, records videos, and you can use their app on your mobile or tablets. Cons, no monitor, price, sleep tracking is only free for a year.
8. Baby Carrier. Whether you are traveling or just at home trying to get things done, being able to go hands-free with a carrier is the best. We have the Solly Baby wrap, and it is so soft and easy to use. You can use it from the time they are first born up to 25 lbs. When we travel, we carry Wyatt through security in our Solly Baby. For our heavy-duty carrier, we went with the Ergobaby™ Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh Baby Carrier in Black. It is also effortless to use, and unlike some carriers, you don't have to buy the extra newborn insert. You can also wear your baby four different ways with it, and the weight limit is up to 45 lbs. We will be using this on our trip to Europe!
9. Bouncer. One of the most inexpensive items that I ended up buying right before he was born ended one of our most used items. We even traveled with our bouncer. We got the Fisher-Price Baby's Bouncer Lion Around from Target. It is under 30 dollars, and we used it way more than Wyatt's expensive swing. The vibration also worked wonders when he was a little backed up!
10. Diaper Pail. While it is at the bottom of my list, it gets the most daily use. We have the Ubbi® Diaper Pail in Grey and love it. It is easy to open and shut, and you can use any trash bags with it.
